“Buck Leonard Day” in Rocky Mount was proclaimed Thursday by Mayor Sandy Roberson as about 50 people gathered to visit Leonard’s former home and celebrate the 50th anniversary of his being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The recognition comes on the heels of Leonard’s having been inducted on Saturday into the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame. He was among 19 inaugural inductees into the Pirates Hall.
